Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are now expected to appear before the House Oversight Committee, a development described as a sharp turnaround by an aide who spoke with Politico.

The timing of their testimony has not been finalized. The shift follows both Clintons skipping scheduled depositions last month, despite congressional subpoenas from the GOP-led panel.

In a letter from their attorneys, the Clintons said they are willing to “appear for depositions on mutually agreeable dates” and asked House leaders not to proceed with a contempt vote scheduled for Wednesday.

“They negotiated in good faith. You did not,” a Clinton spokesmen said in a statement. “They told under oath what they know, but you did not care. But the former president and former secretary of state will be there.”

The reported agreement surfaced just hours after James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said he rejected the Clintons’ latest proposal to testify with conditions, accusing them of seeking preferential treatment.

“The Clintons are in contempt of Congress,” Comer wrote on X. “Their attorneys’ latest letter makes clear they still expect special treatment because of their last name. The Clintons do not get to dictate the terms of lawful subpoenas.”

Comer has not publicly confirmed the reported agreement.

In a statement Monday, Comer said: “The Clintons’ counsel has said they agree to terms, but those terms lack clarity yet again and they have provided no dates for their depositions. The only reason they have said they agree to terms is because the House has moved forward with contempt. I will clarify the terms they are agreeing to and then discuss next steps with my committee members.”

The committee has sought testimony from the Clintons regarding their past connections to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, citing frustration with the U.S. Department of Justice’s handling of the case.
