President Donald Trump’s criminal trial in Manhattan kicked off on Monday, and it’s already shaping up to be a tumultuous and intense circus in the heart of New York.
On Tuesday, amidst ongoing jury selection, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg filed a motion to hold the 45th president in contempt of court for violating a gag order three times on social media, by posting about witnesses Stormy Daniels and Michael Cohen.
Per RSBN, each violation of the gag order would incur a fine of $1,000. However, newer reports revealed that Bragg additionally asked presiding Judge Juan Merchan to threaten Trump with up to 30 days in jail for future violations of the expanded gag order, via Fox News.
The shocking motion comes just hours after Trump posted on Truth Social, slamming the judge for imposing the gag order in the first place. He argued, “I want to speak, or at least be able to respond. Election Interference! RIGGED, UNCONSTITUTIONAL TRIAL! Take off the Gag Order!!!”
Trump has also been threatened with jail time if he is absent from the trial at any point over the next few weeks, with the president has pointed out will force him to potentially miss the high school graduation of his son, Barron Trump. He will also likely miss next week’s upcoming arguments at the U.S. Supreme Court on presidential immunity.
“This shows such great disdain and disrespect for our Nation’s Highest Court, especially for a topic so important as Presidential Immunity, without which our Country would never be the same!” he wrote on Monday.
Trump spokeswoman and attorney Alina Habba said on Tuesday morning that she did not expect the president to get a “fair trial” in the criminal case in New York. On Fox News, she explained, “No chance – there’s no chance of a fair trial here,” she said.
