Leading Republicans in Congress are urging Americans to remain peaceful as they protest the Manhattan DA’s weaponization of his office against President Donald Trump.
Speaking with reporters at the House Republicans’ annual retreat in Orlando Florida, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., warned against aggression and instead encouraged “calmness,” according to Axios.
“Nobody should harm one another in this. … We want calmness out there,” McCarthy said Sunday. “I do not believe there should be any violence [in response] to this.”
Despite strong warnings against violence, McCarthy expressed his support for the 45th president by condemning the investigation launched by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, according to the outlet.
“I talked to Chairman Jim Jordan today, I think you’ll see action tomorrow,” McCarthy stated, hinting at a potential probe by the House Judiciary Committee into whether Bragg used federal funds to investigate Trump.
In a Truth Social post announcing his possible arrest, President Trump urged supporters to “PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK!” according to RSBN.
In response to the president’s latest Truth Social post encouraging “PROTEST, PROTEST, PROTEST!!!,” conservative political commentator Dinesh D’Souza stated, “We do not need another #January6.”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., discouraged protesting entirely, tweeting: “We don’t need to protest about the Communists Democrat’s planning to arrest Pres Trump and the political weaponization of our government and election interference.”
The congresswoman continued: “These idiots are sealing their own fate in 2024 because the silent majority has two feelings right now about the current regime. Fear and anger. That is the most powerful combination when election time comes. And the Democrats are driving that force with their own corrupt actions.”
While it is unclear what actions Bragg’s office will take against President Trump regarding the Stormy Daniels case, Americans went to social media to express their support for the 45th president, with the hashtag “TAKE OUR NATION BACK” trending on Twitter, per RSBN.
