In a surprise twist, news broke on Friday morning that popular Daily Wire host Candace Owens would be bidding goodbye to the conservative media company and embarking on her own independent projects.

The news was dropped by Daily Wire CEO Jeremy Boreing, who stated on X, “Daily Wire and Candace Owens have ended their relationship.”

Owens followed up on that post less than an hour later and confirmed the announcement. She wrote, “The rumors are true – I am finally free.”

She noted that there would be “many announcements in the weeks to come.”

Owens directed supporters to her personal website and her Locals page and even encouraged fans to “give a gift” to support her future professional endeavors. In the final segment of her show at the Daily Wire, Owens said that in the next few weeks, she would be headed to Israel and Gaza to report on what’s going on there.

She stated that she didn’t fear media or “Big Pharma,” but rather, she feared “God.”

Owens explained, “I think that one day we will are all going to account for the things that we have done and the things that we have said and I want to make sure that I am not a person that is parroting lies.”

She continued:

“Fear of losing your job, encouraging some people to spit out lies – I don’t think that works in the end. I think you’ve got to check your priorities. With that said, I want to thank everybody who’s been on this journey with me, who’s supported me. I especially want to thank all of the Jewish people that have been in the comments saying how outraged they are – and I know that’s it’s been especially difficult for you guys right now, because you are being smeared, you know? I am – I’m not going to go away, I’m going to use my God-given voice to talk about the things that are important to me. I’m just asking to be left alone, or at least just report the truth.”

Owens’ departure follows controversial comments she made about the war between Hamas and Israel. Per The Hill, the backlash has been ongoing for months, putting her at odds with Ben Shapiro. Based on her commentary during her final segment, it is possible that her departure had something to do with the controversy surrounding her comments on the Israel-Hamas war, but that is not confirmed.

On Owens’ Locals page, she shared that she was going to take “a couple of weeks” to “refocus” and “rebuild” something that belongs to her. “We’re still going to be doing five days a week, there will be tons of announcements coming in the next couple of weeks…”
