A new poll revealed that Christian voters made a critical difference to help President Donald Trump win the 2024 election.

Trump received a majority of votes from Christians and especially Catholic voters, a study from the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University found.

“Although Harris won a larger share of the non-Christian vote than Trump’s share of the Christian votes, Christians outnumbered non-Christian voters by more than a 5 to 2 margin – delivering the decisive Nov. 5 victory to President Trump,” the report stated.

“Not only did most of Trump’s votes come from Christians, but they gave him a 17 million vote cushion over Harris, which proved to be an insurmountable lead,” it added.

Christians made up 72% of the voters who participated in the election, the study noted. The report also highlighted that Catholics had a record-high turnout, even though overall voter participation, including among Christians, was lower than in 2020.

While voter turnout declined across most Christian subgroups compared to 2020, 70 percent of Catholics reported voting, an increase from 67 percent in 2020. Voters with a “biblical worldview” also showed higher participation, with 67 percent voting in 2024, up from 64 percent in 2020.

The report revealed that 20 percent of Christians considered abortion the most important issue in the election, while inflation (38 percent) and immigration (34 percent) ranked higher in concern.

Also important was the decline in turnout among non-Christians, which surpassed the drop seen in Christian subgroups. The report noted a substantial decrease in turnout among adults affiliated with non-Christian faiths, who saw a 12 percent drop, and among adults with no religious affiliation, whose turnout fell by 9 percent compared to 2020.

Pollster George Barna noted, “Americans forget that two-thirds of adults in this nation consider themselves to be Christians. Donald Trump, for all of his perceived and ridiculed faults, did a better job than did Kamala Harris of representing hallowed Christian characteristics such as the importance and support of family, the rule of law, limited government authority, financial responsibility, and the like.”
