CNN anchor Chris Cuomo has been suspended indefinitely from the network after documents released by New York Attorney General Letitia James “shed new light” on his involvement in his brother Andrew’s sex scandal.
“The documents, which we were not privy to before their public release, raise serious questions,” CNN’s public relations department said in a statement published Tuesday evening. “These documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother’s efforts than we previously knew. As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation.”
The suspension occurs a day after liberal-publication The Atlantic called for Cuomo to be fired for “betraying his obligation to viewers.”
“By keeping Cuomo on the air and in his job, CNN would send the message that journalistic ethics are only for the little people and viewers are on their own,” Atlantic staff writer David Graham wrote.
President Donald Trump weighed in on Cuomo’s suspension, celebrating the surprising move from the liberal network.
“Great news for television viewers, they have just suspended Chris Cuomo indefinitely! The big question is, was it because of his horrendous ratings, which in all fairness have permeated CNN and MSDNC, or was it because his brother is no longer Governor? Probably both. In any event, Fredo is gone!” said Trump.
