Republican leaders are condemning the failures of New York Democrats who allowed a Chinese spy to work for them.
According to Politico, Linda Sun was arrested in New York on Tuesday for allegedly acting as a Chinese Communist spy. Sun is a former staff member of Gov. Kathy Hochul. She also previously worked for disgraced Gov. Andrew Cuomo who resigned amid criticisms over his COVID-19 nursing home policies.
Rep. Elise Stefanik decried “Failed Far Left Democrat Kathy Hochul,” in a post to X, for giving Sun “unfettered access to the highest levels of New York State government. From allowing Chinese police stations, to maintaining a sister city partnership between NYC and Beijing, this is another example of New York Democrats facilitating the influence campaign of Communist China.”
She called for a “complete investigation” into the situation.
Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., commented about the arrest on X: “Dem staffer working as a spy for Chinese Communists to harm the democracy of Taiwan, all while claiming to save democracy, no doubt.”
The Office of Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., posted a video of her recent Fox News interview on the subject where she stated, “This is very disturbing that this person was in the top administration, not just the Governor’s office but serving in the role of Deputy Chief of Staff, a position where she had a tremendous amount of influence and probably advised the Governor.”
“They are willing to infiltrate and look for opportunities to get involved in America’s economic activities; America’s government activities.”
Malliotakis spoke up for Chinese immigrants who have fled the CCP to seek freedom in the United States, adding, “We need the administration to be speaking out and stopping these things before they happen.”
She explained that because the Biden administration is “reactive” instead of proactive it is giving the CCP “a green light” to continue interfering in our political processes.
“Whether its infiltrating our colleges, opening ‘police stations’ to spy on Chinese-Americans who fled the CCP, purchasing our farmland or flying a spy balloon over our military bases, these actions must be met with strength and urgency not weakness and appeasement,” the post concluded.
