Conservatives nationwide united to decry Democrats in the Maine state legislature after Democrat state House representatives moved to censure Rep. Laurel Libby, R-district 90.

According to local WMTW, she was censured for publicly sharing a photo of a biological high school male who identifies as transgender competing in girl’s sports due to the fact that he is a minor.

The post went viral on X and was shared on her Facebook page after female sports advocate athlete Riley Gaines commented on it.

Libby refused to take the image down and posted her testimony during her censure, where she was cut off and deferred multiple times for calling out “The silencing of Maine girls. The cancellation of girls’ sports.”

After her comments, she was stripped of her right to vote or speak on the floor as an elected state representative.

This sparked fury from conservatives who support protecting women and girls’ sports and believe that the censure was politically motivated.

Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., posted to X calling it, “peak insanity.”

Podcast host Chad Prather condemned the censure and noted, “This idiocracy has to end immediately.”

Rep. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., said, “This is not normal. Today’s Democrats hate democracy.”

Political commentator Liz Wheeler stated, “A cowardly, weak leftist man, stripping this courageous woman of her right to vote & speak because she dared to speak reality: boys don’t belong in girls sports. Hang it in the Smithsonian.”

She then called Libby a “warrior.”

Riley Gaines added her voice to the conversation, noting, “A female representative in Maine lost her ability to vote and speak on the house floor for defending girls and women. No, this didn’t happen in Afghanistan. It happened in America.”

This comes just after President Donald Trump and the Democrat Governor of Maine, Janet T. Mills, had a heated exchange when she stated that she would not comply with his Executive Order banning males from playing in women’s sports regardless of how they identify, last week.

On Tuesday, Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a warning letter to the state shared with Fox News which explained that “Maine should be on notice,” as the Civil Rights Office of Health and Human Services is now investigating the situation.

“If these or other federal investigations show that the relevant Maine entities are indeed denying girls an equal opportunity to participate in sports and athletic events by requiring them to compete against boys, the Department of Justice stands ready to take all appropriate action to enforce federal law,” the letter added.

Libby reminded her constituents of the significance of this issue in another statement on X. She stood by the Trump administration declaring, “I will not allow @GovJanetMills and the Maine Democrat Majority to cancel me and silence the voices of Maine girls.”

“The insanity displayed in the Maine House of Representatives tonight is exactly why President Trump’s federal action is so critical,” she concluded.
