Conservatives are welcoming South African refugees to the U.S. after President Donald Trump publicly addressed their struggles on the world stage.
During a press conference on Monday, he called out the corporate media, stating, “It’s a genocide that’s taking place, that you people don’t want to write about.”
“Farmers are being killed. They happen to be white. Whether they’re white or black makes no difference to me, but white farmers are being brutally killed and their land is being confiscated in South Africa,” he added.
“We’ve essentially extended citizenship to those people,” he added after noting that South African leadership is expected to meet with him next week.
Both CNN and MSNBC claimed that white South African minorities are not refugees fleeing persecution because of the history of colonization, which has led to a backlash from conservatives who have been following the situation for years.
Just this year, a new law was passed in South Africa allowing the government to confiscate farmlands from white South African farmers without compensation if leadership deems the situation “just and equitable and in the public interest,” per the BBC.
While critics of the United States accepting white refugees from South Africa focus on land confiscation, they overlook reports of violence and murder against white farmers that grew to such a rate throughout the past decade that independent journalist Lauren Southern made a documentary investigating it in 2018 titled Farmlands.
In addition, masses of black South Africans have repeatedly attended performances singing about killing these farmers.
Even Elon Musk, a South African immigrant who knows the nation more than most Americans, has repeatedly discussed the issue. In March, he replied to Ada Lluch’s post about the situation on X, “The legacy media never mentions white genocide in South Africa, because it doesn’t fit their narrative that whites can be victims.”
Now American conservatives are speaking out against the violence and embracing the 59 refugees that arrived this week.
Actress Colette Harrington posted on X, displaying a picture of the refugees next to an image of the unvetted illegal immigrants that the Biden administration allowed into the U.S.
She wrote, “See the difference in these two photos? America being invaded by migrants from other countries waving their country’s flags. Mostly men. No law or order. Yet South Africa’s asylum seekers are families carrying American flags. Handled in an orderly manner.”
Assistant News Director for Florida’s Voice News, Eric Daugherty, stated, “President Trump just let in around 59 white South Africans. Joe Biden allowed in around 7 million+ illegal aliens from 2021-2025.”
“59, versus 7 million. The left is concerned with the 59, because they’re white. That is 0.00000842857% of what Biden allowed in,” he continued.
CNN’s conservative commentator, Scott Jennings, noted, “The same people who had no problem with letting in 20 million illegal immigrants, gang members included, are suddenly outraged about a small group of white South African refugees.”
He concluded, “Spare me.”
