David Dutch, one of the two surviving victims shot while attending President Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has been released from the hospital.
Dutch, a 57-year-old Marine veteran from New Kensington, was discharged Wednesday from Allegheny General Hospital following an 11-day stay after he was shot twice during an attempt to assassinate the president, per the New York Post.
Four victims, including Dutch and President Trump, were shot by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who fired from a nearby rooftop.
Dutch was critically injured, being shot twice—once in the liver, and in the chest. After being taken to the hospital, Dutch was put into a medically induced coma due to his critical injuries, ABC News reported.
Dutch was recently named Marine Commandant for the Marine Corps League of Pennsylvania, and is also a veteran who served in Operation Desert Storm in 1991, according to WPXI.
The second surviving rallygoer, 74-year-old James Copenhaver of Moon Township, is still being treated for his gunshot wounds at Allegheny General, the New York Post reported, and is listed in serious, but stable condition.
Tragically, a Buffalo Township former volunteer fire fighter Corey Comperatore was fatally shot while shielding his family from the ensuing gunfire.
President Trump paid tribute to Comperatore during his speech to accept the Republican presidential nomination earlier this month. He honored the fire fighter as an American hero for sacrificing his life while protecting his wife and daughter during the horrific shooting.
“What a fine man he was,” said President Trump, who then walked over to Comperatore’s fireman uniform where it stood on stage and kissed the helmet.
