Multiple polls suggest that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ approval rating is reaching new heights ahead of November’s election.

According to the latest St. Leo University Polling Institute survey of 500 Floridians conducted between Feb. 28 and March 12, 58.8 percent approve of the governor’s job performance in the Sunshine State, an increase from 56.4 percent last fall.

In contrast, only 36.8 percent of respondents expressed negative views of DeSantis.

DeSantis also scored high on his Covid-19 response, with 58.8 percent of respondents approving his handling of the pandemic.

“Governor DeSantis is benefitting from a strong economy and a lack of COVID cases in the state over the past few months,” Saint Leo University Polling Institute Director Frank Orlando said. “While he gets lots of national attention for provoking the ire of liberals on things like masking, it doesn’t seem to hurt him in Florida, and in fact continues to raise his national profile.”

A Morning Consult survey of 601 voters conducted between Jan. 1 and March 31 also reported DeSantis’ approval to be nearing 60 percent.

As DeSantis’ numbers continue to rise ahead of Florida’s gubernatorial race, the governor’s chances of reelection remain high.
