DeSantis backs multi-state lawsuit against Biden immigration policy ended under Trump

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has thrown his support behind a lawsuit against the Biden administration for instituting a border policy that was nixed during the Trump administration.

Florida, along with seven other states—Texas, Arkansas, Alaska, Indiana, Oklahoma, Montana, and Missouri— are filing a lawsuit against the reinstatement of the Central American Minors Refugee and Parole Programs, also known as CAM.

CAM applies to certain minors from Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala who would be put on a pathway to citizenship if CAM is allowed to proceed.

Governor DeSantis said, “The Biden administration continues to disregard the laws of this country and allow massive numbers of illegal aliens across the border, without regard to possible criminal backgrounds or connections to illicit activity.”

He continued, “Not only are these illegal aliens allowed free reign in this country, but the administration also pushes the burden and costs onto the states and ignores the consequences of its policies. I’m glad that Attorney General Moody is helping to block the reckless immigration policies of the Biden administration.”

In announcing the lawsuit after touring the southern border, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody stated, “After seeing the chaos in person, it is even more clear to me now that Biden and Mayorkas are building their own illegal organization to transport illegal immigrants into and around our country—thumbing their noses at federal laws. I will not only work aggressively to stop these illegal acts, but I will continue to inform Floridians about what their federal government is actually doing, and the dangers associated with those decisions.”

Moody claimed that Florida is joining the lawsuit to overturn the unlawful program, which she says allows illegal immigrants from three Central American countries to come to the United States without going through the proper legal channels.

The lawsuit being pursued by Florida and seven other states read in part:

Illegal aliens do not have the right under federal law to petition the federal government for their relatives abroad to join them in residing in the United States. There are no lawful paths for aliens who lack status to come to join other aliens who lack status in the United States—and for good reason. It defies common sense. No sovereign nation would reward those who break the law by permitting family members abroad to join them in living in the sovereign territory unlawfully, particularly with the assistance of the government itself. To do so would undermine national sovereignty and would be fundamentally unfair to those who pursue lawful immigration channels and patiently wait for their opportunity to immigrate to the United States.”

This lawsuit is the latest attack on what many believe is Joe Biden’s poor handling of border security.
