Gov. Ron DeSantis is poised to strike a final, victorious blow to the “woke” Disney corporation this week as the Florida State Senate will vote on whether to replace the Reedy Creek Improvement District with a state board.
According to a report from the New York Post, on Thursday, the Florida House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill that is set to strip Walt Disney World of its control over the special tax district of Reedy Creek. The bill (HB 9B) is expected to pass the Senate.
This legislative action is the latest countermove by DeSantis in his longstanding battle with Disney after the corporation unwisely pushed back against Florida HB 1557, which prohibits sexual instruction in grades pre-K to third grade.
The bill was wrongly labeled by the media as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
Per RSBN, DeSantis firmly pushed back on that label with a simple statement: “And so you actually look at the bill, and it says no sexual instruction in grades pre-k through three. And so how many parents want their kindergarteners to have transgenderism or something injected into classroom instruction? …And so I think those are very young kids. I think the legislature is basically trying to give parents assurance that, you know, they’re going to be able to go and this stuff’s not going to be there.”
Since waging war with the Florida governor, Disney’s empire has suffered financially. Disney’s CEO Bog Iger announced this week that the Walt Disney Co. would be laying off 7,000 workers, as reported by Just the News.
This also comes on the heels of Disney losing millions of subscribers in the first quarter of 2023, following last year’s continued “woke” agenda on their streaming platform. Turning Point USA President Charlie Kirk remarked on Twitter, “Disney+ lost 2.3 million subscribers in Q1 of 2023 A good start. Let’s continue to make Disney’s business suffer.”
If the latest legislation passes the Senate on Friday, Walt Disney World will no longer have a special tax district, and the reins of control would effectively be handed over to Gov. DeSantis and a gubernatorially-appointed board of appointees, the New York Post reported.
