At the “Keep Florida Free” rally on Wednesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., delivered a speech celebrating the Republican victories the night before during Florida’s primary elections and slamming Dr. Anthony Fauci.

“You have people like Fauci saying that his lockdowns didn’t cause any permanent damage to any young kids. I got news for you. It did,” the governor told the crowds gathered in Seminole County, Florida, for the event, according to Local 10. “And we’re going to reap those rewards across the whole country for years and years and years because they treated kids so poorly.”

“I’m just sick of seeing him. I know he says he’s gonna retire. Someone needs to grab that little elf and chuck him across the Potomac!” the governor added, drawing applause and cheers from supporters.

The governor’s comments follow Fauci’s announcement that he will be officially stepping down from his positions as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and chief medical advisor to Joe Biden by the end of the year, RSBN reported.

Fauci’s statement reads:

“I am announcing today that I will be stepping down from the positions of Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and Chief of the NIAID Laboratory of Immunoregulation, as well as the position of Chief Medical Advisor to President Joe Biden. I will be leaving these positions in December of this year to pursue the next chapter of my career.”

The controversial doctor hinted at a possible retirement in the past, revealing plans to retire by the end of Biden’s term in July. However, the timeline of his departure has been sped up as Fauci would retire roughly two years into Biden’s presidency.

Echoing general Republican sentiments about Fauci, DeSantis fired at the doctor following his retirement notice, saying he “should have been gone long ago” and called for an investigation.
