Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of President Donald Trump, was in court this week in Utah to attend a preliminary hearing in the murder case of his late friend, Turning Point USA President Charlie Kirk.
Trump was there, he said, to “honor Charlie’s legacy, to support Erika [and] his parents, who were there – it was just important to be there.”
His comments were made this week on Fox News. He also discussed the evidence being presented by prosecutors in the hearing, which will determine whether Kirk’s accused killer, Tyler Robinson, will proceed to trial.
Trump said it was good to be in court and “see the actual facts laid out” as it pertained to the case.
“There is so much stuff that, you know, a mix of the noise and the internet chatter that was laid out, that, you know, I had never heard and makes this case very cut and dry to me,” he remarked.
Wednesday marked the third day of the preliminary hearing, which has to this point been attended by Kirk’s widow, Mrs. Erika Kirk, and his parents.
Trump said that the prosecution’s case so far against the alleged assassin, Robinson, was “very strong.”
“Defense sounded very weak,” he expanded. “The defense’s only real tactic was seemingly to either stall or try to not admit, essentially, any evidence whatsoever because that would be too damning to their client.”
The hearing so far has focused on key evidence in the case. According to The New York Times, for example, prosecutors cited an FBI report noting that Lance Twiggs’ DNA, in addition to Robinson’s, was allegedly found on the towel that was used to wrap the potential rifle used in the shooting at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Twiggs is Robinson’s roommate and romantic partner and has supposedly been cooperating with authorities.
Other key items of evidence, per the outlet, included reports that Robinson allegedly had conversations with Turning Point USA representatives on campus hours before the shooting. Also released by prosecutors in court was security footage showing Robinson allegedly running along the top of a campus building after Kirk was shot. Yet another item of evidence included security footage of what could be the alleged assassin coming back to campus about two hours before the shooting, after having purchased food at Chick-fil-A, via the NYT.
