Dr. Mehmet Oz, who is running to represent Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate, released a campaign ad on Friday to show his commitment to upholding the Second Amendment.
In a statement on Twitter, Oz wrote, “I will never back down from the fight to protect our Second Amendment Rights.”
The ad shows the renowned surgeon and host of “Dr. Oz Show” enjoying his Second Amendment Rights by shooting targets. The advertisement opens with Oz saying, “My father taught me how to handle my first gun. I taught my son Oliver how to do the same.” He added, “I’ve been shooting and hunting my whole life.”
“When people say I won’t support guns, they’re dead wrong,” said Oz. He explained that conservative leaders understand his commitment to defending the Second Amendment. He specifically listed Ted Nugent, Rick Perry, and President Trump as advocates for his campaign.
Oz stated in the video, “Our Second Amendment is not just about hunting, it’s about our constitutional right to protect ourselves from intruders or an overly intrusive government.”
“As your next U.S. Senator, I will fight for our constitutional rights,” he added.
According to Oz’s policy platform, “Dr. Oz believes every law-abiding American citizen should be allowed to buy the gun of their desire.”
Dr. Oz’s new ad comes a week ahead of Trump’s highly anticipated Save America rally in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, on May 6, 2022. Oz faces multiple Republican challengers in a state that is essential for Republicans to win in order to have a chance at retaking the House and the Senate.
Trump gave a strong endorsement of Dr. Oz on April 9, saying, “The Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has a tremendous opportunity to Save America by electing the brilliant and well-known Dr. Mehmet Oz for the United States Senate.”
