Dr. Mehmet Oz, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in the state of Pennsylvania, has taken the lead over Democrat opponent John Fetterman, according to a new poll from Wick. Per the poll, which was conducted among 1,013 likely voters, Oz has taken a 4.5 point lead over Fetterman, at 49.1 percent versus 44.6 percent.

The poll also asked a sample of 29 voters who they would vote for if they had to decide between Fetterman and Oz right now. 59 percent indicated that they would vote for Oz while 41 percent stated that they would vote for Fetterman.

Dr. Oz’s strong stances against crime has likely hurt Fetterman, who has an embattled record on several issues.

Oz’s ascension to the leading spot in the Senate race has not come without the celebrity heart surgeon’s dedication to duking it out in a state that critics have postulated was destined to remain under Democrat control.

According to a report from the Daily Wire, it appears that undecided voters are leaning Republican in this election in Pennsylvania. In fact, Trafalgar Group founder Robert Cahaly told the outlet that Oz has managed to garner more support among African American voters than Fetterman. For example, their report noted that Oz has netted 30 percent of support from black voters, while Fetterman has managed to accrue 20 percent of their support.

The gap between Oz and Fetterman is widening as Election Day approaches, per Wick.

Oz won the heated Pennsylvania Senate primary earlier this year after his Republican opponent conceded the race in June following a lengthy recount. Via RSBN, McCormick urged Pennsylvania Republicans to support Oz in his quest to win the Senate seat: “It is so important for Pennsylvania, so important that we beat (Democrat) John Fetterman.”

Oz also received the coveted endorsement of President Donald Trump in April, and has further appeared with Trump during a Save America rally in Pennsylvania earlier this year.

According to the Wick poll, the issue that was most important to likely voters in the Keystone State when deciding who to vote for was “Threats to Democracy,” followed by the “Cost of living.”
