Erika Kirk canceled a planned appearance Tuesday at a Turning Point USA event at the University of Georgia after receiving what organizers described as serious threats.
A spokesperson for the group said Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, faced “very serious threats,” prompting the decision to withdraw from the event.
Kirk confirmed the move in a social media post, citing security concerns.
“I was so looking forward to tonight’s event at the @universityofga with our Vice President @JDVance, but after all our family has been through, I take my security team’s recommendations extremely seriously,” she wrote. “Thank you to our amazing Georgia chapter for your support. God bless you all!”
Vice President JD Vance, who was scheduled to appear at the event, said he had anticipated the possibility of a cancellation and supported Kirk’s decision. He added that he had been in contact with security officials and advised her to prioritize her safety.
Vance proceeded with his appearance, offering a fireside chat that was streamed live by RSBN.
“I know that she did get some threats, and about two hours ago I was a little worried we were going to have to cancel the event because Erika was not going to come,” the vice president said during his remarks to students at the University of Georgia. “She was very worried about it.”
Authorities have not released details about the nature of the threats, and organizers said additional information was not immediately available.
Kirk assumed a leadership role at Turning Point USA following the death of her husband, who was killed during a 2025 event in Utah. His death drew national attention, with several political leaders, including Donald Trump, attending memorial services and honoring his legacy.
Turning Point USA later named Erika Kirk as its chief executive officer and chair of the board.
The canceled appearance comes amid heightened security concerns surrounding public figures and political events, particularly those drawing large crowds or national attention.
