The Lone Star State is one of the most important battleground states in the general election, doling out 40 electoral votes that pitch Americans’ favored candidates closer to victory. This year, Texas is shaping up to be President Donald Trump’s territory, as the latest general polls in the state have indicated the 45th president’s impressive lead over Joe Biden.
Amid the state’s ongoing battle against Biden’s open border policies, it is perhaps no surprise that Texas voters prefer Trump over Joe Biden. According to a March 2024 NPR/Marist poll, Trump is leading Biden by 11 points in Texas ahead of the upcoming general election.
With Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in a three-way race with Trump and Biden, Trump’s lead increased by one point, springing up to a 12-point lead. In Texas, Kennedy garnered 15 percent of the vote, and with that three-way scenario, Biden’s lead dropped.
The pollsters’ generic ballot survey also found that Republicans have a nationwide 10-point advantage over Democrats headed into the November election. These are all good signs for Republican candidates, especially among those running for Congress.
With Republicans in the House of Representatives barely holding onto a soon-to-be one-seat majority after Rep. Gallagher’s, R-Wis., departure this spring, the GOP will need to perform exceptionally well to win back power in Congress.
According to Bloomberg/Morning Consult, Trump also holds the advantage in a slew of states in the general election, flexing early battleground strength months out from November.
Their data found Trump up by six points in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Nevada. He’s also up by seven points in Georgia and two points in Michigan. These kinds of margins are significant, indicating that as Biden’s popularity wanes, Trump’s popularity is continuing to grow.
