On Friday, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., shared an exclusive message with RSBN, ripping what he called a “coordinated effort to steal the republic from the voters.”
His message comes as Democrats seek to set a legal precedent for future elections by removing Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., from the ballot in Georgia’s upcoming November election.
“In my legal career,” Gaetz said in remarks made just outside of the courtroom, “it’s been very rare that I’ve ever seen a circumstance where a judge so frequently and demonstrably turns down the arguments of one side and accepts the arguments of another.”
“Almost every objection that Congresswoman Greene’s legal team [has] presented has been sustained,” he continued. “And time and again [we’ve] seen the petitioner very disorganized, unable to really put a thought together.”
On Monday, a federal judge ruled that a lawsuit filed with the Georgia Secretary of State seeking to block Rep. Greene from running for reelection could proceed, according to Reuters. The suit is based on the claim that Greene is “unfit” for office because her supporters were allegedly involved in the so-called “insurrection” of Jan. 6, 2021.
On Wednesday, RSBN’s own Brian Glenn interviewed Rep. Greene to discuss the lawsuit. Greene stated during the interview that the lawsuit is a “frivolous case that should be completely thrown out… They are trying to rip my name off the ballot with these fake claims about January 6th and about me.”
Rep. Gaetz further addressed the unprecedented court proceedings in his message to RSBN, postulating that the suit would likely be unsuccessful but warning of the dangerous ramifications if Rep. Greene were to be barred from participating in the midterm election.
He said, “If this is all about Congresswoman Greene’s, you know, tweets from a year or more ago, it won’t be successful, and it shouldn’t be successful. Because what we’re observing is a coordinated effort to steal the republic from the voters. In America, it’s the voters who get to select the lawmakers [and] the representatives, not state court judges, not un-elected bureaucrats not even elected bureaucrats.”
As Rep. Greene continues her Friday testimony in the suit brought against her, Rep. Gaetz reminded Americans that voter choice was being attacked. “The people get to make the choice, and that’s really what’s on trial today,” he said. “…I expect her to win, just as she always does.”
