Famed actor Robert Redford, known for his roles in films like “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “All the President’s Men,” and “Captain America: Winter Soldier,” has passed away at the age of 89, multiple outlets have reported.

“One of the all-time great movie stars,” said commentator Piers Morgan on Tuesday morning.

He added, “A true Hollywood legend who starred in so many of my favourite films: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, The Way We Were, All The President’s Men. What a career, what an actor, what a sad loss.”

Redford had a prolific career in film, and his work ranged from acting to directing.

According to Vanity Fair, his final role was in the 2018 crime movie “The Old Man and the Gun.” Redford told the outlet, “I think I’ve done it long enough… You don’t want to overstay your time. The last film I’d done was a pretty heavy lift. It was a very dramatic love story. It was pretty sad. So the idea of this probably being the last thing I’m acting in just felt very right, because I could have fun, enjoy myself.”

In 1980, Redford won the Academy Award for “Best Director” for his work in the film “Ordinary People.” That year, the Oscar ceremony was postponed for a full 24 hours due to the assassination attempt against President Ronald Reagan.

Ambassador and Chief of Protocol for the United States Monica Crowley noted on X, “One of the last great movie stars. Rest in Peace, Robert Redford[.]”

Other classic films Redford was known for include “The Sting,” “Barefoot in the Park,” “Out of Africa,” “Indecent Proposal,” and “The Bridges of Madison County.”
