FBI Director Kash Patel said Thursday evening that one person has been arrested in Minneapolis on suspicion of breaking into a federal vehicle and stealing government property, part of a continuing investigation tied to unrest in the city this week.

Patel said the arrest followed a series of incidents on Wednesday night in which several government vehicles were broken into amid protests that erupted after a federal officer shot a man in the leg during an immigration enforcement operation. The FBI had offered rewards of up to $100,000 for information leading to arrests and recovery of stolen property.

Patel warned that more arrests are expected. “Any individual who attacks law enforcement or vandalizes federal property paid for by hardworking taxpayers will be found and arrested,” he wrote on X.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said the suspect is a member of the Latin Kings gang who allegedly stole FBI body armor and weaponry, in a case that involved cooperation with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Bondi posted on social media that the individual has a violent criminal history, though authorities have not released the suspect’s identity.

“This criminal is a perfect example of what our brave federal law enforcement agents are up against every day as Minnesota leadership encourages lawbreaking,” Bondi wrote.

Officials are still seeking photos, video or “other digital footage” of the vandalism and theft involving other vehicles. People with information have been urged to contact the FBI or submit tips online.

The incidents occurred as tensions in Minneapolis remain high following clashes between protesters and federal agents, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, after multiple shootings and demonstrations.
