First Lady Melania Trump visited The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health on Wednesday, warmly celebrating Valentine’s Day and smiling alongside incredible kids who are bravely battling rare and serious diseases.
“Love reveals itself in many forms, especially in the hardest moments of care and compassion,” said Mrs. Trump in a statement shared by her office.
She continued, “The Children’s Inn provides important support to children who have been diagnosed with rare and serious diseases. Returning to The Children’s Inn at NIH is a special reminder of warmth that exists here year-round thanks to the profound resilience of these young people and the dedication of those working to provide comfort, hope, and support during clinical trials. I wish them all a very happy Valentine’s Day.”
Mrs. Trump mingled with the children, joining them at the crafting tables and greeting everyone in the room, amid pink and purple decorations and hearts. It was a special visit focused on connecting with the children undergoing treatment and care through the NIH clinical trials.
According to the Office of the First Lady, The Children’s Inn is a nonprofit organization that provides a place for children to live while they are undergoing treatment for their illnesses.
This is not the first time Mrs. Trump has visited the facility. She also participated in Valentine’s Day events in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
“We were deeply honored to welcome First Lady Melania Trump back to The Children’s Inn,” said Jennie Lucca, CEO of The Children’s Inn. “Her visit brought joy and comfort to our children and families at a time when compassion and encouragement mean so much.”
Mrs. Trump is well known for her passionate work on children’s causes through her Be Best initiative, Fostering the Future, and her ongoing efforts to reunite Ukrainian and Russian children with their families amid war-torn Eastern Europe.
“Everything that I know about Melania Trump is pretty amazing. She does a lot of work for children – and she does it quietly,” said Cheryl Hines in recent comments.
Hines is the wife of HHS Secretary Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
She continued, “[Melania] doesn’t need fanfare for it, but she really works hard to try to reunite children with their parents.”
