Former Biden administration staff secretary and senior aide Neera Tanden admitted that she had autopen authority during former President Joe Biden’s time in the White House.

According to the Washington Examiner, Tanden was summoned to testify before the House Oversight Committee in a closed-door investigation on Tuesday. During her testimony, she stated that she “was responsible for handling the flow of documents to and from the president,” in addition to being given authorization to control Biden’s automatic signature between October 2021 and May 2023.

Before her testimony, she was advised by Deputy Counsel to the President, Gary Lawkowski, in a letter obtained and shared on X by White House Correspondent Shelby Talcott, to offer “unrestricted testimony.”

The letter informed her that she could not keep information regarding Biden’s mental decline confidential under the Assertion of Executive Privilege due to the “unique and extraordinary nature of the matters under investigation.”

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump authorized U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to launch an investigation into Autopen-Gate, noting, “This conspiracy marks one of the most dangerous and concerning scandals in American history.”

House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., supports President Trump and is committed to discovering the truth about Autopen-Gate. Before the closed-door hearing, he posted to X about the investigation’s progress.

He wrote that the session was “a significant shift after the Biden admin previously blocked their (the senior officials’) testimony in an effort to conceal Joe Biden’s decline.”
