House Representatives are scheduled to meet Wednesday morning to begin the process of selecting a new Speaker.

According to Fox News, over 100 state Representatives have signed a letter calling to switch the Speaker requirements to include an overall majority vote instead of the current slight majority.

Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., is behind the movement to change the rules. He stated, “That’s first thing we’ve got to consider is our rules, that’s going to be tomorrow morning, I believe.”

Despite this, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., posted about the Speakership Tuesday night stating, “I am excited for a new era of leadership in the House of Representatives.”

He expressed support for the two frontrunners, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., and noted that both are “well-known among our party’s most dedicated activists.” He added, “They are respected among our donors, and they will be trusted among the members of the House of Representatives, who now must come together to resist the excesses of the Biden administration.”

Gaetz described the need for a “strong strategy” to curb government spending and expressed confidence in selecting a new Speaker who would better represent that cause.

He said, “I believe that tomorrow we will likely have, if not a Speaker of the House, we’ll be well on our way to coalescing around either of these two men.”

“I’m going to do a lot of praying tonight to figure out which one I’m going to vote for,” he added.

When asked about former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s perception of him, Gaetz joked, “I probably am off of former Speaker McCarthy’s Christmas card list.”

Per RSBN, Gaetz filed the motion to vacate the Speakership, which led to McCarthy’s unprecedented removal from his position.

Despite facing criticism over this debacle, Gaetz remains positive and also noted in his post on X, “This is not a time to move backward, we want to move forward.”
