Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., has urged Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to oppose the Manhattan District Attorney’s use of his office against President Donald Trump and “stop any sort of extradition of President Trump from the state of Florida.”
Gaetz criticized DeSantis’ reaction to President Trump’s potential indictment on News Nation, saying that if he were governor, he “would not allow any Floridian to be hauled before a Soros-backed prosecutor in a blue city over politics.”
“I wouldn’t make an exception to not protect the President of the United States,” Gaetz asserted, adding that DeSantis should block any attempt by the Manhattan District Attorney to extradite Trump from Florida.
“The fact that he’s not doing so puts every Floridian at risk who could be the subject of a false allegation,” he added, suggesting that DeSantis does not “really understand the nature of this fight” since the Florida governor has not been the target of “false and persistent allegations like President Trump has.”
The congressman’s remarks come after DeSantis discussed Trump’s possible arrest at a press conference on Monday, according to RSBN.
“Look, I don’t know what goes into paying hush money to a porn star to secure silence over some type of alleged affair,” the governor stated. “I can’t speak to that. But what I can speak to is that if you have a prosecutor, who is ignoring crimes happening every single day in his jurisdiction, and he chooses to go back many, many years ago to try to use something about porn star hush money payments, you know, that’s an example of pursuing a political agenda and weaponizing the office.”
While DeSantis called the district attorney “a menace to society,” the governor stated that his office would not be involved and would instead concentrate on the citizens of Florida.
According to RSBN, President Trump responded to DeSantis’ remarks in a message on Truth Social by saying: “Ron DeSanctimonious will probably find out about FALSE ACCUSATIONS & FAKE STORIES sometime in the future, as he gets older, wiser, and better known, when he’s unfairly and illegally attacked by a woman, even classmates that are ‘underage’ (or possibly a man!). I’m sure he will want to fight these misfits just like I do!”
