Average gasoline prices have dropped below $4 per gallon amid President Donald Trump’s deal to end the war with Iran.
As of Thursday, AAA reported a national average gas price of $3.999 per gallon, with 28 states seeing prices below the national average.
Prices generally fall below the national average in southern and some Midwestern states, while Americans along the East and West Coasts face higher costs at the pump.
Indiana’s gas prices are notably the lowest at $3.399 per gallon, followed by Texas at $3.499 per gallon. Fuel costs were highest in California at $5.642 per gallon, and in Washington state at $5.436 per gallon.
The president touted the latest gas numbers, crediting his deal with Iran as evidence.
“OIL IS FLOWING, IRAN CAN NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON (THE WORLD WILL BE SAFE!), THE STOCK MARKETS ARE ROARING, JOBS ARE AT RECORDS, AND PRICES ARE DROPPING (AFFORDABILITY!),” he wrote Thursday in a post to Truth Social.
He continued, “OUR COUNTRY IS STRONG, SAFE, AND RESPECTED LIKE NEVER BEFORE. ‘YOU’RE WELCOME!'”
The price drops follow President Trump and Iranian officials signing a memorandum of understanding planned to prevent further escalation of the war with a 60-day negotiating period to reduce Iran’s nuclear program, RSBN reported.
Oil prices also decreased to about $80 per barrel of U.S. benchmark crude, according to PBS, a slight increase from the $67 before the war, but much less than the $120 per barrel at its peak.
