Celebrations broke out in both Gaza and Israel on Thursday in response to the historic peace deal brokered by the Trump administration, which has laid the ground for a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict. Civilians took to the streets to rejoice after news of the deal was announced.
President Trump released the news on Wednesday night, signaling a potential end to the two-year conflict. In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared that Israel and Hamas had reached the first stage of an agreement.
“I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan,” President Trump said. “This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace.”
The proposed peace plan includes the return of all Israeli hostages currently held by Hamas. Citizens in Tel Aviv chanted President Trump’s name and called for him to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in response to the news.
In addition to the return of hostages, the peace plan calls for the withdrawal of the Israeli military from Gaza and the disarmament of Hamas.
Palestinians were also seen celebrating in the streets in response to the news that Hamas had accepted the deal. The peace plan further provides for the return of Palestinian prisoners from Israel, and the provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza during the ceasefire.
White House representatives cited the relationship between Qatar and the Trump administration as one of several factors that led to the historic achievement.
President Trump thanked Qatar and other countries in the region for their assistance in mediating the historic peace deal.
“This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen,” President Trump said. “BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!”
