Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich took to Fox News this week stating former President Donald Trump is a “leader of a movement” who has a “very high likelihood of winning the general election.”
During a recent interview with Mark Levin on Fox’s “Life, Liberty, and Levin,” the former House speaker discussed how the growing support for Trump was more than just about the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.
“Trump is not a candidate. Trump is the leader of a movement, he is the personification of an establishment that is totally corrupt, destroying anything that gets in its way,” Gingrich told host Mark Levin.
“I think that country is, in fact, going to nominate Trump. And I think Trump has a very high likelihood of winning the general election,” Gingrich concluded.
While Gingrich has notably supported the former president in the past, a new wave of endorsements has flooded in following Trump’s fourth indictment in Georgia where he was formally arrested and charged.
After a mugshot of Trump was later leaked to the press, it was reported by Politico that his campaign later raised $7.1 million, with $4.18 million being raised within the first 24 hours.
Gingrich went on to mention that the former president could have simply left the race, retiring and having “none of the charges” ever happen.
“Trump could easily have retired and if he’d retired, none of these charges would ever have occurred. And instead, he said, you know the country’s worth going through this,” Gingrich told Levin.
Gingrich continued to state, “And I think that’s given him support in places that normally wouldn’t have supported him.”
In fact, recent polls are indicating that following his interview with Carlson, skipping the first GOP debate, Trump not only holds the Republican nominee, but some are showing him leading in the general election by two to three points.
A poll conducted by Morning Consult shows that Trump is ahead of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis by 44 points as he remains strong holding 58 percent. Additionally, a recent general election poll conducted by the New York Post shows Trump potentially leading Biden by three points.
