President Donald Trump on Sunday condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin over a wave of devastating missile and drone strikes on Ukraine, calling the Kremlin leader “absolutely CRAZY” in a post on Truth Social.
The comments came after Russia launched a reported 367 drones and missiles that targeted key cities, including Kyiv. At least 12 civilians were killed, with dozens more injured, according to Ukrainian officials.
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever,” Trump wrote.
“I’ve always said that he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just a piece of it, and maybe that’s proving to be right, but if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia! Likewise, President Zelenskyy is doing his Country no favors by talking the way he does. Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop. This is a War that would never have started if I were President. This is Zelenskyy’s, Putin’s, and Biden’s War, not “Trump’s,” I am only helping to put out the big and ugly fires, that have been started through Gross Incompetence and Hatred,” he added.
The president recently held a private two-hour call with Putin, during which he attempted to persuade the Russian leader to pull back from further violence. While details of the call were not disclosed, Trump suggested that Putin’s recent actions represent a sharp and troubling shift.
“Just completed my two hour call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. I believe it went very well. Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War,” Trump wrote.
“The conditions for that will be negotiated between the two parties, as it can only be, because they know details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of. The tone and spirit of the conversation were excellent. If it wasn’t, I would say so now, rather than later,” he added.
