Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, held a press conference Monday, marking the date that the Biden administration originally planned to end Title 42 before a Trump-appointed judge upheld it.
During his press conference, Abbott stated, “The good news is that a court very correctly ruled that Title 42 should not be lifted.” However, the governor emphasized that while it is a “good thing,” it is “only a temporary result.”
Abbott warned, “There are maybe as many as a hundred thousand migrants who are across the border waiting to cross into the state of Texas.”
The governor described the influx of illegal immigrants attempting to cross into Texas as a “tidal wave.” He also outlined the significant challenges facing law enforcement, public officials, and residents of Texas.
When asked if he heard anything from Biden regarding the communities affected by unprecedented numbers of illegal immigrants flowing into Texas, Abbott remarked, “President Biden has never once even tried to contact me about the border.”
Abbott added, “The czar for the border, Kamala Harris, has never once tried to contact me.” The governor explained that his last contact with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was over a year ago. “They have no interest in talking to Texans or talking to leaders who are actually on the border,” Abbott said.
“Remember, Joe Biden himself has never even been to the border,” he continued. Although the Biden administration has attempted to shift blame for the southern border crisis, Abbott explained, “We are dealing with a crisis that is man-made” by the current administration.
The governor said Joe Biden “doesn’t want to take the time to even come to the border or talk to the governors of the border states.”
Abbott made it clear that Texas will move to ensure Biden enforces Title 42 by taking them to court. The governor declared Monday, “If the Biden administration refuses to fully and correctly enforce Title 42 the way that it currently exists, we’ll be right back in court.”
