Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, announced on Wednesday that a group of illegal migrants had arrived in Chicago after being bused into the Windy City from the Lone Star State.
“Migrants are flooding into our state at a historic rate, thanks to Pres. Biden’s open border policies,” Abbott said on Twitter. “Texas will continue busing migrants until the President secures the border.”
According to a report from Just the News, Abbott has previously bused migrants into New York City and Washington D.C. to pressure the Biden administration to button up the southern border as the immigration crisis escalates.
“President Biden’s inaction at our southern border continues putting the lives of Texans—and Americans—at risk and is overwhelming our communities,” Abbott stated in a press release shared through his office.
“To continue providing much-needed relief to our small, overrun border towns, Chicago will join fellow sanctuary cities Washington, D.C. and New York City as an additional drop-off location,” he continued. “Mayor Lightfoot loves to tout the responsibility of her city to welcome all regardless of legal status, and I look forward to seeing this responsibility in action as these migrants receive resources from a sanctuary city with the capacity to serve them.”
Per RSBN, the Texas governor’s skirmish with left-wing lawmakers and leaders like D.C. Mayor Lori Lightfoot is part of a strategy announced in April that would “strengthen our already robust response to the Biden border disaster, and we will use any and all lawful powers to curtail the flow of drugs, human traffickers, illegal immigrants, weapons, and other contraband into Texas.”
The governor’s office stated that the Texas Division of Emergency Management had chartered buses to transport migrants into the cities.
Additionally, the New York Post reported in June that Arizona’s Gov. Doug Ducey (R) had also bused migrants to Washington D.C. in tandem with Gov. Greg Abbott.
