The Chinese people are rising up in outrage after their government instituted a zero-Covid lockdown policy.

Per Fox News, massive protests are spreading throughout 20 provinces across the country so far, with demonstrations reportedly sparked by the horrendous and tragic deaths of innocent civilians that had been confined via Covid lockdown protocols to an apartment building in Urumqi, located in the Xinjian province. According to a widely circulated online video, families were locked inside a high-rise apartment complex as the building caught fire. Some of those who were inside reportedly burned to death.

“They burned alive as they couldn’t escape and no one could get to them in time[,]” Jack Posobiec, the senior editor of Human Events, wrote on Twitter.

“This is directly on the CCP and Xi’s Zero-Covid lockdown strategy[,]” he continued.

As reported by Fox News, over the weekend, thousands of protesters gathered in Shanghai to hold a candlelight vigil for victims of the high-rise apartment fire in Urumqi, prompting chants of “apologize” toward President Xi Jinping’s authoritarian regime. The Shanghai vigil-turned-protest reportedly sparked the explosion of demonstrations multiplying throughout China.

Over the weekend, a huge crowd of Chinese protesters gathered in Beijing, only a few miles away from Tiananmen Square. Protesters held pieces of white paper in the air and chanted, “We don’t want testing, we want freedom!”

According to a report from Axios, Chinese authorities have not taken steps at this point to attempt to stop the protesters from gathering, and online Chinese censors are reportedly fighting to suppress an avalanche of antigovernmental content from the outraged Chinese people.

However, in Hangzhou, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities were filmed on video “cracking down” on protesters, sparking reports of violence. Unfortunately, the CCP will likely attempt to suppress the demonstrations to maintain control across their many provinces.

Joe Biden has failed to strongly denounce the CCP’s strict lockdown measures and continued abuse of the Chinese people. Via Politico, in a Monday statement, a spokesperson for the National Security Council stated, “We think it’s going to be very difficult for the People’s Republic of China to be able to contain this virus through their zero COVID strategy.”

The statement further dodged the issue of CCP tyranny, opting to weakly conclude, “We’ve long said everyone has the right to peacefully protest, here in the United States and around the world.”
