Michigan Democratic Rep. Shri Thanedar announced an end to his impeachment effort against President Donald Trump on Wednesday after criticism from fellow Democrats.
Thanedar originally introduced seven articles of impeachment against the president to force a vote in the House.
“In the fifteen days since I filed seven articles of impeachment against President Trump, he has committed more impeachable offenses, most dangerously, accepting a $400 million private jet from Qatar, which even Republican Members of Congress have called wrong,” Thanedar wrote on X.
“So, after talking with many colleagues, I have decided not to force a vote on impeachment today. Instead, I will add to my articles of impeachment and continue to rally the support of both Democrats and Republicans to defend the Constitution with me,” he continued.
“This is not about any one person or party; it is about defending America, our Constitution, and Rule of Law. I will continue to pursue all avenues to put this President on notice and hold him accountable for his many impeachable crimes,” the congressman concluded.
Multiple Democrats ridiculed Thanedar’s impeachment attempt, according to a report from Axios.
“We need to focus on reconciliation,” said Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.), the chair of the New Democrat Coalition. “100% of our energy is on dealing with this.”
Trump also blasted the effort in a May 1 post to Truth Social.
“The Democrats are really out of control. They have lost everything, especially their minds! These Radical Left Lunatics are into the ‘impeachment thing’ again. They have already got two ‘No Name,’ little respected Congressmen, total Whackjobs both, throwing the ‘Impeachment’ of DONALD J. TRUMP around, for about the 20th time, even though they have no idea for what I would be Impeached,” he wrote.
“Maybe it should be for cleaning up the MESS that they left us on the Border, or the Highest Inflation in our Country’s History or, perhaps, it should be the incompetent Withdrawal from Afghanistan, or Russia, Russia, Russia/Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine, or the Attack of Israel on October 7th that only proceeded because they allowed Iran to regain Great Wealth. These Congressmen stated that, they didn’t know why they would Impeach me but, ‘We just want to do it,’” the president continued.
