House Republicans made a bold move this week to potentially expunge the impeachments of President Donald J. Trump.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., and Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., have introduced resolutions this week to formally expunge the impeachment record for Trump, Rep. Greene confirmed on Twitter.

“The impeachments of President Trump were nothing more than a politically motivated sham by the Democrats, led by Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff. I’m proud to join Chairwoman @RepStefanik in working to expunge President Trump’s impeachments,” she wrote.

Rep. Stefanik added, “I am proud to introduce two resolutions with my colleague @mtgreenee that would expunge President Trump’s two sham impeachments.”

According to The Epoch Times, Greene’s resolution would expunge Trump’s 2019 impeachment, while Stefanik’s resolution would target the second round of impeachment charges against the president.

For reference, the first impeachment in 2019 centered on a phone call that the president made to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and the second impeachment was focused on Trump’s actions surrounding Jan. 6, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol.

Both impeachments ended with Trump’s acquittal.

Senior correspondent for Fox News, Chad Pergram, added on Twitter that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., reportedly backs the proposal to expunge the impeachments from President Trump’s record.

He explained, “There is precedent for this. In 1833, the Senate voted to censure President Andrew Jackson over a banking issue. But in 1837, the Senate voted to expunge the censure, drawing a line around the Journal from the Secretary of the Senate. The document reads “Expunged by order of the Senate this Sixteenth day of January in the year of our Lord, 1837.”
