Hundreds of pro-life supporters gather outside the Supreme Court to celebrate overturning of Roe v. Wade

Hundreds of pro-life supporters gathered outside the Supreme Court in Washington D.C. on Friday to celebrate a historic landmark decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

The ruling effectively overturned Roe v. Wade, established in 1973, and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which reaffirmed that case in 1992, according to a report from SCOTUSblog.

Countless pro-life advocates were waiting anxiously to hear if a decision would be delivered in the case on Friday, following weeks of speculation. A draft opinion from the court was leaked in early May, indicating that SCOTUS was likely poised to overturn Roe v. Wade. Since then, proponents of the pro-life movement have been waiting for the justices’ official decision.

On Friday, pro-life supporters held prayers and a moment of silence outside the Supreme Court as soon as the decision was announced. Bubbles, cheers, and chanting filled the air. RSBN’s own Brian Glenn spoke with many of the pro-life supporters outside of the court, many of whom said that America was now a “post-Roe generation.” Glenn also spoke to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., for a few moments, who called the decision from the court a “miracle.”

SCOTUS’ syllabus on the decision stated the following:

“Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. The Court overrules those decisions and returns that authority to the people and their elected representatives.”

The massive celebration outside of the Supreme Court was not overshadowed by pro-choice protesters, some of whom angrily chanted things like “illegitimate Supreme Court” and “forced motherhood.”

The Supreme Court’s decision on Friday was 5-1-3, establishing abortion as an issue that individual states now have to decide. Justice Samuel Alito wrote the majority opinion.
