Idaho Governor Brad Little has set a precedent for other states to ensure that only American citizens are allowed to vote in U.S. elections.

Little posted about the Act on X, stating, “Left Coast states’ liberal policies and @POTUS’ lawless southern border are eroding public trust in elections.”

“Idaho is taking a stand,” he concluded.

According to Little’s Press Release, he signed an Executive Order titled the Only Citizens Will Vote Act to “protect election integrity, voter confidence, and the sanctity of voting.”

The Executive Order was signed Tuesday and details how the Biden administration has encouraged non-citizens to register to vote amid the border crisis via Executive Order 14019.

Little’s act states, “Idaho refuses to register non-citizens to vote,” and cites their exemption from a previous policy requiring welfare offices and agencies to encourage non-citizen voter registration.

It then details a plan to validate registering only legal citizens to vote, direction for the state’s secretary of state to regularly check voter rolls, and take “any steps necessary to verify citizenship status.”

In addition, state agencies are barred from sharing voter registration with non-citizens or coordinating with federal efforts to do so.

The legislation goes into effect immediately as concerns over non-citizens voting in American elections grow.

The Biden administration has released a statement opposing legislation to protect Americans’ voting rights, specifically the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act on the premise that elections are already safeguarded against non-citizen voting.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., condemned this position on X.

He noted, “It should alarm every American citizen that the sitting President of the United States, who has opened our border to over 9 million illegals, just announced that he would veto our bill to prevent noncitizens from voting.”

According to Ballotpedia, 16 states do not require voter identification to cast a vote in an American election. These states include California, New York, Illinois, and New Jersey, which, according to the PEW Research Center, ranked as the top states housing “unauthorized immigrants” in 2021.
