Early numbers are already showing a massive drop in the number of people seeking to illegally cross America’s southern border since President Donald Trump took office last week.
A new report shows that less than 600 people sought to cross the border on Sunday, compared with over 4,000 daily crossings at the highest point under President Joe Biden.
“Sources tell Fox News that not a single one of the nine sectors received more than 200 crossings on Jan. 26, and the number of daily encounters only reached 582 in total. The Del Rio sector – which is the same sector that would sustain over 4,000 crossings per day during the height of the border crisis in December 2023 – only recorded 60 crossings,” the outlet reported.
The news comes after Trump signed a series of executive orders starting on his first day in office last week to stop what he called an “invasion” of the U.S.
In addition, Trump border czar Tom Homan has announced mass deportations have already begun, with flights heading out daily. As RSBN previously reported, Homan shared the update during an interview on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday with Martha Raddatz.
“What price do you put on national security? What price do you put on these young ladies that have been raped and murdered and burned alive?” he said.
“If you don’t secure that border, that’s when sex trafficking goes up. That’s when, you know, the fentanyl comes in and kills a quarter of a million Americans, and I don’t put a price on that,” Homan continued.
The border leader noted that over 500 people were arrested on the first day of deportations last week.
“They lock us out of the jails,” he said. “Instead of [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] being able to arrest those people, where the officer is safe, the alien is safe, and the public is safe, they’re released back into the community, which endangers the community. But when we find them, [they’ll] be with others most likely. … If they’re in the country illegally, they’re coming too,” he added.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is also adding new panels to the wall along the southern border to fill in gaps in New Mexico left by the Biden administration, RSBN reported on Monday.
Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks posted pictures of the new operation on X alongside a quote concerning the new effort.
“USBP actively strengthens border security by refining strategies to deliver effective impedance and denial capabilities, addressing illegal cross-border activity head-on. Efforts like installing wall panels to fill critical gaps in Deming, New Mexico, exemplify our commitment to enhancing infrastructure and operational effectiveness,” Banks wrote.
“Agents drive these solutions by leveraging advanced technology and their ingenuity to adapt to evolving challenges, ensuring a more secure and managed border,” he added.
