The Federal Bureau of Investigation apparently cautioned California police departments to be on the alert for a potential drone attack from the Iranian regime, according to a news alert circulating in the media.
Obtained by ABC, the alleged alert, dated late February, warned of a potential Iranian drone attack, supposedly poised to launch from a vessel off the West Coast, aimed at “unspecified targets in California.”
The alert was reportedly sent just after the U.S. military triggered Operation Epic Fury, amid whispers of alleged Iranian plans of retaliation against targets in the U.S. homeland:
“We recently acquired information that as of early February 2026, Iran allegedly aspired to conduct a surprise attack using unmanned aerial vehicles from an unidentified vessel off the coast of the United State Homeland, specifically against unspecified targets in California, in the event that the US conducted strikes against Iran. We have no additional information on the timing, method, target, or perpetrators of this alleged attack.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) stated this week that he was aware of possible Iranian drone threats to California.
“We’ve been aware of that information, we’ve been working collaboratively through the SOT, which we established right after the war began, the State Operations Center…we transferred that information in real time to our local partners – drone issues have been, always, top of mind,” he said during a segment on KCRA3.
Journalist Ashley Zavala asked the governor whether he had spoken about this potential threat, as well as rising gas and oil prices due to the ongoing conflict in Iran, with President Donald Trump.
“No, I haven’t talked directly to the president about this, and I wish the president would talk directly to the American people about what this is all about,” Gov. Newsom said. “What’s the end game here?”
President Trump told reporters on Wednesday, when asked about the conflict, that the situation in the Middle East wasn’t a war for the U.S., but rather, an “excursion.”
“It’s an excursion that will keep us out of a war…for them it’s a war, for us, it’s turned out to be easier than we thought,” the president stated.
The president told the press earlier on Wednesday that the U.S. military had sunk 60 Iranian naval vessels and “took out just about all of their mine ships in one night,” referring to Iranian attempts to ensnare ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
