Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formally nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize on Monday, citing his role in brokering peace agreements in the Middle East and his leadership on global security.
Netanyahu presented Trump with a copy of the nomination letter during a meeting at the White House, praising the president’s efforts in forging the Abraham Accords and addressing regional threats.
“I want to express the appreciation and admiration, not only of all Israelis, but of the Jewish people and many, many admirers around the world for your leadership, your leadership of the free world, your leadership of a just cause, and the pursuit of peace and security,” Netanyahu said.
“The president has an extraordinary team, and I think our teams, together, make an extraordinary combination to meet challenges and seize opportunities,” he added.
Netanyahu highlighted Trump’s recent diplomatic achievements, including peace negotiations across multiple nations, calling them historic. “He forged the Abraham Accords. He’s forging peace as we speak in one country, in one region after the other,” he said.
“I want to present to you, Mr. President, the letter I sent to the Nobel Prize Committee,” Netanyahu added. “It’s nominating you for the Peace Prize, which is well-deserved, and you should get it.”
Trump accepted the letter and thanked the prime minister, saying, “Coming from you in particular, this is very meaningful.”
The meeting came just weeks after joint Israeli and American operations targeted Iran’s nuclear program during what the White House described as the “12-Day War.” The campaign included strikes on underground nuclear facilities in Fordo and two other sites, carried out by U.S. B-2 bombers and submarines, along with Israeli forces.
Last month, Pakistan also nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his involvement in easing tensions between India and Pakistan. Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., said last month that she has twice formally nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize and intends to do so again if he is not awarded the honor.
The congresswoman’s support also comes after Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his role in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran following a brief but intense conflict over Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
