Ivanka Trump’s testimony requested by Jan. 6 committee

The Jan. 6 committee this week requested Ivanka Trump’s testimony regarding her involvement at the Capitol when the protests occurred. The daughter of the president served as a senior White House advisor to him at the time.

A letter sent by Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., outlines the four reasons for summoning her testimony. The committee wants conversations Ivanka Trump had or observed regarding the counting of electoral votes. And it also is requesting details about her conversations with President Trump, and anything pertaining to his comments or behavior on Jan. 6.

A statement released by an Ivanka Trump spokesperson reads, “Ivanka Trump just learned that the January 6 Committee issued a public letter asking her to appear. As the Committee knows, Ivanka did not speak at the January 6 rally. As she publicly stated that day at 3:15pm, ‘any security breach or disrespect to our law enforcement is unacceptable. The violence must stop immediately. Please be peaceful.’”

The statement does not indicate whether the former senior White House aide will be cooperating with the efforts, or if she will join those who vowed not to testify.
