Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, may emerge this week as the new Speaker of the House after a floor vote is held on Tuesday, potentially giving the seat to a congressman whom President Donald Trump has openly endorsed.

According to Politico, Jordan may face a challenger for the gavel on Tuesday, despite having won the Speaker nomination last week. However, it is unclear who that may be, although one anonymous House Republican told the outlet, “There will be an alternative for the rational part of the Republican conference.”

Internal rumblings aside, many prominent House Republicans have announced their strong support of Rep. Jordan for the position of Speaker.

Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., for example, stated on X, “Jim Jordan for Speaker of the United States House of Representatives! No more delays. Our voters want Jim, I’m with Jim, the House is ready for Jim, America NEEDS Jim. Let’s get to work!”

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., who initially filed the motion to vacate Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., from the position of House Speaker just two weeks ago, shared his frustrations with Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., for delaying the floor vote on this issue until Tuesday.

He explained on social media, “Dear @PatrickMcHenry – You and you alone are in charge of scheduling our election for House Speaker. Friday Jim Jordan was elected Speaker-Designate. The American People want Jordan to be Speaker. Why did we take Saturday off? Why did we take Sunday off? Why are we taking Monday off? No more swampy closed-door struggle sessions.”

Turning Point USA President Charlie Kirk shared insight on X over the weekend that suggested Jordan is close to clinching the votes for the speakership, writing, “Hearing Jordan is VERY close. Way closer than congressional reporters are saying. The vast majority are not hard NO votes but ‘maybe.’ Jim Jordan remains the only guy who can get to 217.”

Rep. Jordan also serves as the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
