House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., on Monday said President Donald Trump should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his crackdown on crime in Washington, D.C., citing an administration report that no homicides have been recorded in the district for 11 consecutive days.

“There are MANY reasons why President Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize — but 11 straight days with ZERO murders in Washington, D.C. might top the list,” Johnson posted on social media. “SAFER streets. STRONGER communities. AMERICA IS BACK!”

The remarks follow Trump’s deployment of federal troops and National Guard members to the capital under a controversial order earlier this month, which also placed the Metropolitan Police Department under temporary Justice Department oversight. Administration officials say the effort has led to hundreds of arrests and a measurable decline in violent crime.

Trump, who has already been nominated for the prize by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and nearly a dozen others, has long argued he deserves the award.

“He forged the Abraham Accords. He’s forging peace as we speak in one country, in one region after the other,” Netanyahu said.

“I want to present to you, Mr. President, the letter I sent to the Nobel Prize Committee,” Netanyahu added. “It’s nominating you for the Peace Prize, which is well-deserved, and you should get it.”

The Nobel Committee last awarded a sitting U.S. president in 2009, when former President Barack Obama received the honor for what it called “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”

“They gave it to Obama. He didn’t even know what he got it for. He was there for about 15 seconds, and he got the Nobel Prize,” Trump said in 2019. “With me, I probably will never get it.”

More recently, Trump reiterated his skepticism, telling supporters, “They will never give me a Nobel Peace Prize. I deserve it, but they will never give it to me.”

The suggestion from Johnson adds to Republican efforts to highlight the administration’s law-and-order agenda, which has become a focus of Trump’s second term.
