President Donald Trump has been blocked from sharing information related to the federal investigation looking into his handling of purportedly “classified” documents in the wake of his arraignment last week on 37 counts of “mishandling” said documents, multiple sources have reported.
Per The Hill, a federal magistrate agreed to this motion that was made by the DOJ, which would halt the 45th president from sharing information about the case from social media or with the press.
Last week, Trump faced his second arraignment of the year in Miami, where he was charged with 37 counts related to the alleged “mishandling” of documents in the investigation. 31 of those counts were part of the Espionage Act.
“Today we witnessed the most evil and heinous abuse of power in the history of our country,” he told a crowd of supporters just hours after the arraignment at a gathering in Bedminster, New Jersey.
President Trump has been very vocal about the ongoing investigation on Truth Social, his social media website. He has previously called the probe “ELECTION INTERFERENCE” and lambasted the Biden administration for utilizing the DOJ to attempt to prevent him from running for president in 2024.
He also remarked that the federal prosecution was like “something straight out of a fascist or communist nation.”
Per The Hill, Judge Bruce Reinhart wrote in his order, “Defendants shall only have access to Discovery Materials under the direct supervision of Defense Counsel or a member of Defense Counsel’s staff. Defendants shall not retain copies of Discovery Material.”
According to Becker News, the gag order additionally extends to Walt Nauta, the second man who has been charged in the classified documents case.
Trump told Politico last week that he would never back down from the 2024 presidential race, even if he was convicted. He told the outlet, “I’ll never leave. Look, if I would have left, I would have left prior to the original race in 2016. That was a rough one. In theory that was not doable.”
