Kamala Harris received a fact-check on Elon Musk’s X on Sunday after making false claims about President Donald Trump’s views on abortion.

Harris stated that Trump would institute a federal abortion ban, though he denied plans to do so during Thursday’s presidential debate against Joe Biden.

“Donald Trump would ban abortion nationwide. President @JoeBiden and I will do everything in our power to stop him and restore women’s reproductive freedom,” Harris posted Sunday afternoon.

A community note was soon added that stated: “President Trump has repeatedly said he will not sign a national abortion ban.”

The note was followed by links to five recent news accounts to verify the fact-check.

During the first presidential debate, Trump responded to the question of abortion by referring to Democrats as the “radicals” on the issue. He affirmed his support of the Supreme Court ruling returning abortion laws to individual states instead of the federal government.

“Under Roe v. Wade, you have late-term abortion. You can do whatever you want. Depending on the state, you can do whatever you want. We don’t think that’s a good thing. We think it’s a radical thing,” Trump said. “We think the Democrats are the radicals, not the Republicans.”

Biden essentially agreed during the debate that women should have access to abortions through the third trimester.

“The idea that the politicians – that the founders wanted the politicians to be the ones making decisions about a woman’s health is ridiculous. That’s the last – no politician should be making that decision. A doctor should be making those decisions. That’s how it should be run. That’s what you’re going to do,” Biden said. “And if I’m elected, I’m going to restore Roe v. Wade.”

Trump released a statement in April that revealed his most recent view on the abortion debate.

“My view is now that we have abortion where everyone wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation, or perhaps both. And whatever they decide must be the law of the land. In this case, the law of the state,” Trump said in a video posted to his Truth Social account.

“Many states will be different,” Trump continued. “Many will have a different number of weeks, or some will have more conservative than others, and that’s what they will be. At the end of the day, this is all about the will of the people.”
