Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake vowed to defend the citizens of Arizona from unconstitutional gun control laws implemented by the federal government.

Lake tweeted, “When I’m Governor, Arizona will not recognize unconstitutional Gun Laws in our state.” She emphasized, “We just won’t do it.”

“What are the Feds going to do? Fly down here and arrest a sitting Governor?” continued Lake. She challenged her critics, adding, “Call my bluff.”

In the weeks following mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde, both chambers of Congress have attempted to address the issue of gun violence. Recently, the House approved a series of gun control laws that would restrict America’s Second Amendment rights. The Senate approved a subsequent version of the bill, which Biden signed into law on Friday, CBS reported.

Republican leaders like Kari Lake and President Donald Trump have warned that the new gun control measures go against the Second Amendment, will be used to take away guns from law-abiding citizens, and should be opposed.

Lake has made defending the Second Amendment a core component of her America First platform. Her campaign website sums up her position on gun control with the simple statement, “Shall. Not. Be. Infringed.”

Last week, the Trump-endorsed candidate issued a blistering statement in anticipation of the legislation, saying, “I think I can speak for most Moms in America: you can shove your ‘Red Flag Laws’ where the sun don’t shine.”

In a direct challenge to the federal government’s use of gun control laws and red flag laws, Lake wrote, “I DARE you to try and throw us on lists & come after our firearms. I dare you.”
