President Donald Trump’s nomination of Kash Patel to head up the FBI has thrust Democrats and their media allies into a tailspin.
Their cries have been ineffective in swaying Republican senators, and his confirmation is undoubtedly imminent.
Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn, who most recently served as the Senate Minority Whip, told radio host Hugh Hewitt that Patel “will be” confirmed as the director of the FBI in the new Trump administration.
“People I know and who I trust speak well of him and I’m looking forward to meeting with him,” Cornyn remarked.
He elaborated further on his confidence in President Trump’s choice. “People I have great respect for, people like Trey Gowdy, have recommended him highly.”
He noted that his office had not yet scheduled a meeting with Patel, but that he certainly “has the vast experience, including working on the House Intelligence Committee on the Russiagate scam and its Steele dossier scandal.”
Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, addressed concerns about Patel’s nomination during an interview with ABC on Capitol Hill.
He shared a clip of his remarks on X, formerly Twitter, and captioned the post with, “Kash Patel is highly qualified to lead the FBI. He is getting backlash because he wants to root out corruption and politicization at the agency. In the last four years, we have seen Joe Biden weaponize the FBI and DOJ for political ends. This must stop, and we need to restore the American people’s confidence in their federal law enforcement.”
Cruz listed Patel’s accolades, which include his time as a senior intelligence staffer on Capitol Hill and in the White House, the chief of staff at the Department of Defense, the Deputy Director of National Intelligence, a public defender, and prosecuting attorney.
Patel also received a significant endorsement from the National Police Association on Friday.
“We firmly believe that Kash Patel’s appointment as FBI Director will mark a pivotal moment for law enforcement and public safety across the United States. His leadership will bring a renewed focus on collaboration, ethical standards, and the relentless pursuit of justice,” the organization wrote in a statement.
