Republican Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., sparred with a CNN reporter on Capitol Hill over the narrative surrounding the indictment and upcoming arraignment of President Donald J. Trump over allegedly “mishandled” classified documents.

“The idea of equal justice is not playing out here,” McCarthy said. “And so, that’s a real concern to all Americans…we want to make sure it’s equal justice for all.”

McCarthy slammed CNN for hiring James Clapper, the former Director of National Intelligence, despite his duplicitous history of allegedly leaking information to the very same network that he is now employed by.

Per The Hill, Clapper was accused during the Trump administration of leaking intelligence from the now-debunked Steele dossier to CNN, although he has denied doing so.

“So, your network hires Clapper,” McCarthy said, “who literally lied to the American public, one of 51 other individuals that had briefings and used it politically to tell the American public that a laptop was Russia[n] collusion even though it had all this information about the Biden administration. Are you prepared to get rid of those people from your network? Because my concern as a policy maker is that when you weaponize government and now you’re weaponizing networks, that is wrong.”

He continued, “So, we will take all of our power to make sure that our legal system in America gets the blinders back on and people are treated fairly. I have a real problem that your network actually pays people that declassified information and then lied to the American public to try to influence a presidential election and then you put them on your network.”

While Clapper has not faced any indictments or charges related to his time as the director of intelligence, President Trump is facing 37 counts related to allegedly “mishandling” classified documents on Tuesday, RSBN reported.
