Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., determinedly defended President Donald Trump on Tuesday as news broke that special prosecutor Jack Smith, at the behest of the Biden DOJ, was planning to indict Trump on more charges related to Jan. 6, 2021.
“If you notice recently, President Trump went up in the polls and was actually surpassing President Biden for reelection,” he told the press.
He continued, “So, what do they do now? Weaponize government to go after their number one opponent. It’s time and time again. I think the American public is TIRED of this. They want to have equal justice and the idea that they utilize this to go after those who politically disagree with them is WRONG.”
Trump announced on Tuesday morning that he had received a letter from the DOJ and Jack Smith requesting his appearance before a grand jury in just four days. He stated that this “always means an Arrest and Indictment.”
He added, “So now, Joe Biden’s Attorney General, Merrick Garland, who I turned down for the United States Supreme Court (in retrospect, based on his corrupt and unethical actions, a very wise decision!), together with Joe Biden’s Department of Injustice, have effectively issued a third Indictment and Arrest of Joe Biden’s NUMBER ONE POLITICAL OPPONENT who is largely dominating him in the race for the Presidency.”
Numerous Republicans have come to Trump’s defense as another indictment seems imminent. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., explained that Jack Smith was “a lousy attorney.”
“His career is filled with mistrials, overturned cases, and judicial rebukes,” she wrote on Twitter. “He only targets Republicans because he’s a weak little bitch for the Democrats.”
Just hours after breaking the news, President Trump stated on Truth Social that the case was a “WITCH HUNT!!!”
He added, “JOE BIDEN & HIS INJUSTICE DEPARTMENT WANT TO INDICT & ARREST HIS PRESUMED POLITICAL OPPONENT (ME!), WHO IS LEADING HIM IN THE POLLS IN THE UPCOMING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF 2024. SUCH A THING HAS NEVER HAPPENED IN OUR COUNTRY BEFORE…AND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CAMPAIGN??? ELECTION INTERFERENCE & PROSECUTORIAL MISCONDUCT!!!”
