Lara Trump, daughter-in-law to former President Donald Trump, accused Apple of shadowbanning her and is now censored on a Times Square billboard after releasing a new song on Friday.
The former television producer and wife to Eric Trump released a new cover of Tom Petty’s 1989 song “I Won’t Back Down.” However, shortly after the release, she took to social media sharing screen recordings of not being able to find her song on the Apple platform.
“Hey, @Apple — where is my song??? Why doesn’t my song appear when you search “I Won’t Back Down”???,” Lara posted on Friday.
Eric Trump later took to social media, in a now-deleted post, accusing Apple of “viciously shadow banning” his wife’s song, which “immediately upon release, was 31st on the ITunes chart.”
“Apple appears to be viscously shadow banning LaraLeaTrump new song, which immediately upon release, was 31st on the ITunes charts. Lara’s name, when typed in full, is hardly viable and can only be found below “Fake News II.” According to Newsweek, the song itself is unsearchable,” Eric originally posted on X.
In addition to an accused shadow ban, a Times Square billboard run by TSX Entertainment suggested to the singer that they just use her first name and omit her last name, stating that “Trump” was an “issue,” according to emails obtained by Breitbart News.
“[Producer LJ Fino] called me and told me this, and I was like, ‘Hell no, I’m not okay with just Lara. My name is Lara Trump and I’m proud of that,’” Lara told Breitbart News. “The billboard just went live with just the picture, not even the title of the song.”
The billboard ended up running through the weekend without ever correcting with the singer’s name.
Apple also never responded to the accusation of shadow banning; however, Eric Trump later shared a post over the weekend showing the singer’s single at No. 6 on the iTunes charts.
